América Dominates Chivas to Set Up Another Champions Cup Clásico

Club América delivered a commanding performance in the second leg of the Concacaf Champions Cup Round of 16, thrashing Chivas 4-0 to overturn a first-leg deficit and advance to the quarterfinals, where they will face Cruz Azul.

Determined to chase the only major title missing under André Jardine’s tenure, América showcased its championship pedigree, overpowering Guadalajara at the Estadio Ciudad de los Deportes.
América Overwhelms Chivas

Despite entering the match with a 1-0 aggregate lead, Chivas struggled to make an impact. América, laser-focused on the Concacaf title, wasted no time asserting dominance.

From the opening whistle, Jardine’s squad applied relentless pressure. In the very first minutes, Brian Rodríguez found himself unmarked inside the box and calmly slotted the ball past Raúl Rangel, leveling the aggregate score.

While América seized control, Chivas struggled to mount a response. Their best opportunity came in the 40th minute when Luis Romo’s shot sailed just over the crossbar—one of their few clear chances of the night.
América’s Attack Runs Riot

Chivas' hopes of regaining control were dashed when Roberto Alvarado lost possession deep in América’s half. A swift counterattack saw Rodríguez surge down the wing before delivering a dangerous cross that Rangel mishandled, setting up Diego Valdés for an easy finish.

Now trailing on aggregate, Chivas needed a response but suffered another setback just after halftime when Alan Mozo received a second yellow card, leaving them down to 10 men.

América capitalized on their numerical advantage. Rodríguez, once again unmarked, sent a perfect cross to the far post, where Alejandro Zendejas tapped in to extend the lead.

Chivas, now demoralized, could do little to stop the onslaught. Álvaro Fidalgo sealed the victory with a stunning long-range strike, taking advantage of a defense that failed to close him down.
América Marches On, Chivas Left to Reflect

With this emphatic victory, América continues its dominant international run, while Chivas must regroup and focus on domestic competition.

Meanwhile, América now prepares for another Clásico—this time against Cruz Azul in the quarterfinals—as they continue their pursuit of Concacaf glory.
