Lewandowski Joins Ronaldo and Messi in Elite 100 Champions League Goals Club
Robert Lewandowski has etched his name alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi as the only players in Champions League history to score 100 or more goals.
The Polish striker reached the milestone with an early penalty in Barcelona's commanding 3-0 victory over previously unbeaten Brest, propelling them to second place in the new single-league format. Lewandowski later added his 101st goal during second-half stoppage time.
Ronaldo remains the tournament's all-time leading scorer with 140 goals, followed by Messi with 129. However, neither currently competes in the Champions League, with Ronaldo now in the Saudi Pro League and Messi playing in the MLS.
"I'm very happy—it’s a lovely number to reach. Years ago, I never imagined scoring more than 100 goals in the Champions League," Lewandowski told Movistar. "To join Messi and Ronaldo... well, I guess they’re pretty good, right?"
He added, "For me, the most important thing is winning every game. If I can score, that's the perfect solution."
Lewandowski, now 36, achieved this milestone in 125 matches—just two more games than Messi (123) and significantly faster than Ronaldo, who reached the mark in 137 appearances.
Barcelona coach Hansi Flick, who previously worked with Robert Lewandowski at Bayern Munich, praised the striker's remarkable achievement.
"I had the privilege of coaching him for two years in Munich, where he broke every record imaginable," Flick said. "Now, he's continuing to deliver here. His goals are crucial for us, but it’s a team effort. The other players are doing their part to help him find the back of the net."
